Housing FAQ
Can I room with a friend?
You may request to live with a friend by emailing ASA at hello@academicstudies.com. Roommate requests must be mutual, so be sure your friend requests you back. Oxford Brookes University is responsible for hall allocations, so we can't always guarantee that you will be placed in the same flat or residence hall as your friend, but we will be happy to pass along your preference to the university as long as you let us know shortly after you're accepted. You will meet your flatmates upon arrival; they could be from the U.S., the UK, or other countries.
Will I have a roommate?
Rooms are single occupancy, but you will share a flat with 3-7 additional students. Flats are usually all gender.
Are meals included?
No, meals are not included, but your flat will have a kitchen, and grocery stores are within walking distance.
What should I bring with me?
A detailed list of what to bring (and what not to bring) will be included in your ASA pre-departure handbook, which will be emailed to you about a month before your program begins.
How far will I live from school?
Oxford Brookes University has a number of different residence halls, and you will live in one of them. Because the university has several different campuses, residence halls are located varying distances from classroom buildings. Classroom buildings may be as close as a 5-15 minute walk, or you may need to take the Brookes Bus back and forth. ASA can't guarantee you will live within a specific distance from your classes or in any particular hall, but no matter which hall the university allocates you to, you'll be able to get there by walking or taking the bus. A free Brookes Bus pass is included for students who live in hall!
When will I find out where I'll be living?
ASA will notify you of your residence hall allocation via email approximately 2 weeks before the start of your program.
