Favorite Excursion from Sorrento, Italy: Boat Day Exploring Capri

Words and photos by Anika Woelffer, our Jetsetter Journalist who is studying abroad in Sorrento, Italy, during Spring semester 2024.

As the weather started to warm up in Sorrento in late April, I was able to check off a bucket list item: A boat day exploring Capri!

My friends and I had booked this boat weeks in advance, and when the day finally came, we were all so excited. It turned out to be one of the nicest days we have had so far this year, which was a huge blessing. We started out early and boarded the boat at 10:30 am. The day lasted eight hours.

The day started on a high note because as soon as we took off, we saw dolphins! I've only seen dolphins here twice, so it was super special to see them so close to our boat.

Green Grotto

We went around Capri and got to see so much, including the Green and White Grotto. Our captains were very informative and were telling us facts about Capri and both grottos we saw. There was an option to see the Blue Grotto, which is the most famous one, but as a group we decided to skip out on that.

Halfway through our journey, we stopped for lunch in Capri. The restaurant we ate at was very good and had a beautiful view of the sea. The water close to shore was crystal clear, and it was such a pretty view.

We spent the day dancing, relaxing, and swimming in the sea. We got lucky because it wasn't too windy, so no one got seasick.

We booked through Charter System Yacht. It cost about €120 per person. This was the cheapest we could find for 10 people, and it was definitely worth it.  Our captains were extremely nice and made sure we were all having a good time. The company also provides towels, food, drinks, snorkeling gear, and pool noodles. They took us to a super pretty swimming spot, and we spent so much time in the water. They also did a great job taking videos and pictures of everyone, so we were able to just enjoy the day.

This was one of my favorite days abroad and I couldn't recommend doing a boat day more. Capri is a beautiful island and has many spectacular views. With my time abroad coming to an end, this was an experience that I will cherish forever.  If I have a chance to come back, I will definitely be doing a boat day again!
