ASA Excursions from Oxford

To understand a country in greater depth, including its history and its culture, head beyond your host destination at least once or twice. We plan some excursions to help you do just that (and you’re welcome, of course, to venture off on your own during your breaks and weekends).

If you’re spending a semester abroad in Oxford, you’ll have at least two day trips included in your program.

Excursions planned for each program vary, but past terms have included trips to:

STONEHENGE & WINCHESTER

(Day trip)

Wander around one of England’s most recognizable landmarks, 5,000-year-old World Heritage Site, Stonehenge. We’ll hear stories about the stone circles, magic, and mysticism that shroud this part of the country. Then we’ll head over to the beautiful ancient city of Winchester shaped by Romans, Saxons and Vikings. Do you know the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table? If you do, you’ll definitely appreciate out visit to Winchester Castle, with its Great Hall and the legend-famous round table!

WALES

(Day trip)

There’s a lot to discover in Wales, but we’ll start by explore the 800-year-old ruins of Tintern Abbey on the Welsh borders and then spend a bit of time in the capital city, Cardiff. We’ll visit Cardiff Castle, the National Museum and take in the culture and language of “Britain’s most traditional country.” Cardiff is a friendly, multicultural, historic city, with a buzzing foodie scene, independent shops, and a bustling market.

Which adventure sounds like the most exciting to you?
