ASA Excursions from London

To understand your host country in greater depth, including its history and its culture, we encourage you to explore beyond your immediate location! We plan some excursions to help you do just that (and you’re welcome, of course, and encouraged, to venture off with friends during your breaks and weekends).

If you’re spending a semester abroad in London, you’ll have at least two day trips and one overnight trip included in your program. If you’re spending summer in London, your program includes one day trip. Note that a summer or semester on our program with the London College of Fashion includes an extra 5-day excursion to Paris.

Excursions planned for each program vary, but past terms have included trips to:

YORK

(Overnight excursion)

We’ll walk the enchanting medieval streets and ancient city walls of York and then marvel at Northern Europe’s largest cathedral, York Minster, with its rich history and beautiful architecture. We’ll spend some time in the tranquil secluded Fountains Abbey where you can wander among the ruins and the charming narrow shopping streets of The Shambles with their timber-framed buildings and independent shops. We’ll also travel onward to the small village of Haworth, perched on the mystical haunting moors that inspired the timeless novels of the Bronte sisters.

STONEHENGE & BATH

(Day trip)

Let the 5,000-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stonehenge transport you back in time as we explore the awe-inspiring stone circles, magic, mysticism and legend of King Arthur. Then we’ll head to Bath for another dose of history. Here, we’ll visit the Roman baths (some of the most well-preserved in the world), admire the Gothic architecture of Bath Abbey, drink the healing waters that have drawn in visitors for centuries, and hear tales of Jane Austen and high society.

DOVER CASTLE & CANTERBURY

(Day trip)

Like the pilgrims in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, we’ll walk the cobbled streets of the city and find inspiration in the gothic architecture of the Canterbury Cathedral. Then we’ll carry on to Dover Castle for the second part of our adventure. This iconic fortress is perched on the cliffs looking out over the English Channel. No doubt, the drama of the famous White Cliffs of Dover will stick in our minds for a long time to come.

Which adventure sounds most exciting to you?
